My Lord,
With reference to Mr. Amery's despatch No.165
of 13th June, 1927, I have the honour to inform Your
Lordship that Mr. A. C. Hynes resigned his seat as an
Unofficial Member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong
as from the 14th instant on his departure from the Colony
on retirement, and I have accepted his resignation.
2.
I have provisionally appointed Mr. Benjamin
David Fleming Beith with effect from the 15th instant to
be temporarily an Unofficial Member of the Legislative
Council in the place of Mr. A. C. Hynes, and I submit this
appointment for confirmation.
3.
I further submit for Your Lordship's approval
that Mr. B. D. F. Beith be granted the definitive
appointment to the vacancy on the Legislative Council
created by the retirement of Mr. Hynes. Mr. Beith is the
Managing Director of Messrs. Jardine, Matheson and Company,
Limited, Hong Kong, and is one of the leading members of
the mercantile community of this Colony. He was a member
of the Legislative Council during the absence from the
Colony of Mr. J. Owen Hughes in 1929 and a member of the
Executive
